Rose Tinted Glasses — I love them!!

It’s not hard to see that the World is spiraling out of control. The question we have to ask ourselves is how much of the fountain of doom and gloom do we let taint our lives? I’m not suggesting that we bury our heads in the sand and live in an alternative universe. I’m saying hang on to happiness and look forward to experiencing the joy of life. Here’s how!

Give the News a Wide Berth

Don’t ignore the news, just take what you need and walk away. I am a news junkie. I need a news fix several times a day. I read newspapers, watch news programs on the TV and I have the constant update on the Internet and to be honest, it’s exhausting!!

I remember 9/11. I was in the UK at the time and watched the horrors unfold in real-time curtsey of the BBC. My husband and I watched the Towers fall and joined the World in silent panic. News overload can be terrifying.

For the most, it's the same information under different banners. Give yourself time to process information and decide how the news will affect you and your family. Sounds selfish? Not really, self-preservation is important especially when you have to explain devastating events to children and other vulnerable people. Teaching empathy is, however, very important. I feel children, especially, need to be shown how safe they are and without being too graphic, how difficult the lives of others may be. I think the World’s problems should be addressed but life should not come to a standstill because of it.

Ducks in a Row….

During uncertain times a bit of preparation goes a long way. I know with the cost of living crisis spending extra money on reserves may be near impossible, but a little extra in your shopping basket each time will soon mount up. I’m talking a tin of soup, pasta, rice or flour. Anything you can afford. Don’t forget water! Fill any container you can with tap water. Familiarize yourself with articles on making your water safe. and any other survival tips. It will help should that rainy day/monsoon arrive. Take some time to think about what you and your family would need in time of crisis. I’m not just thinking global crisis, unemployment or ill health comes to mind. Being prepared for any situation eases the stress on any individual

Finances

This will be tough for most people. Do what you can to get your finances in good shape. Save what you can. Attack debt in any which way you can. Just being honest with yourself can be quite liberating. The world’s economy will be/is a war zone. Do what you can to protect yourself.

Self-Care

Look after yourself! Address your physical and mental health. Life is stressful and we need to be in good shape to take it all on. Taking time out each day to address our physical and mental needs is a must. If you have one, use your belief system, share it with the people you love. Relieve your head of chaos by putting thoughts away. Try journaling. ideas seem easier to deal with when they are on a page. Don’t forget ‘talk therapy, pouring out your heart to a friend is priceless. As my Mother would say, “A problem shared is a problem halved”.

Plan for the Future

We do not have to be frozen with fear. Plan Birthday Parties, Holidays, Vacations any event that is worth celebrating — Do so! Take the time to be with loved ones. Make new friends! Keep your world as large as you can. Take up new hobbies. Your life is just that — Your Life. Do what you want with it. Wake up in the morning and smile. Be grateful for what you have.

All this sounds great but what If you’re experiencing life-changing difficulties? What do you do if just putting one foot in front of the other seems impossible? I'm talking about loss. Loss of employment, loss of health or loss of a loved one. Grief is the most debilitating experience I have ever endured. Don’t give up. Let people help you and seek help where you can. Try and hang on to hope. Give yourself grace, take your time. The sun will shine again — someday.

Life is beautiful and should be enjoyed up to the last minute. Be kind to people. This world may be in absolute chaos but it is a beautiful place, enjoy the sunshine.

So if you feel overwhelmed and stressed by the global daily events, join me. Put on those “Rose Tinted Glasses”. You will love them!!
